So why not?

This weekend we decided on a whim to go and stay with Daddy at his "swimming hotel" as the girls call it. Aaron originally had planned to host a dinner but some last minute cancellations made his schedule free. He called as asked if we would drive down and meet him for dinner and then go swimming.

Why not?

After a long week back, from a two week hiatus, all I had in mind was to have an early dinner and to get the girls into bed. I could then watch all the television shows that Aaron makes fun of me for without a complaint, put my pjs on and try a taste of the orangecello recipe from the Giada de laurentiis show I saw and brewed on my kitchen counter for 5 long days. No! That wouldn't be fun for the girls. That would be fun for ME.

Working full time for me, sometimes takes away my mom fun. I focus on sleeping more on the weekend, laundry, meals for the upcoming week all to try to stay on top of things. What does all this do for me? It makes me feel accomplished at home so that that part of my brain can shut off while at work. But what does that do for my children? Nothing. That's not fun. That's boring, routine, AND...lame.

So part me tried to talk the other part of me from going. But the Mom Fun won out. We hopped into the car, (did I mention it was snowing?)drove 1 hr and 15 minutes to try the Sushi place Aaron's been raving about and get a late night swim in. Am I crazy to take two small children to a nice restaurant at 8:30 pm? Yep. I'd say so. But the restaurant was amazing and the service was impeccable. The chef made us feel so important sending out his recommendations without our asking all because of Aaron's ties to him. The little girls? Complete angels. All they could think about was swimming afterwards. This turned out to be a great carrot to dangle over their heads throughout dinner as a subtle reminder when little voices got excitedly loud about something.

The "swimming hotel" turned out to be just what we needed after our meal. Ava's fear of water has vanished. No slow warm up to it this time. She was jumping to her daddy faster than he put her back up on the side. Olivia tried out her cannon ball and proved yet again that she can swim all on her own. We swam for 1 hour which put us all back in our room around 11:00 pm. Aaron had thought of everything to woo his girls. Me, sushi. The girls swimming. Happily ever after for a why not kind of night.

So glad, the fun mom won this battle.
